These can be completed as either work experience or as a 6-12 month Independent Study Contract.  It may be possible to adapt some of these projects into Honors or Masters projects. If you have ideas for other projects that you would like to start, please email studentswithoutborders@rocketmail.com
8Ball Computer Recycling Program:
The 8Ball Program has been running since 2005, and aims to ensure that all students have access to a computer at home.  Volunteers are needed to refurbish computers.  No experience required - all training provided.  You must be able to commit to at least 40 hours during the year.  For more information, visit the 8Ball page or contact

Volunteering in Western Australia
We have teamed up with Volunteering WA to bring you a large database of positions available to search through to find the best position for you both on and off-campus.  To start your search choose they type of volunteer work you would like to do and/or enter your postcode. You can choose to enter keywords and your age, although these are optional.
 
Once you have clicked on search you will be shown anything that matches your criteria, click on more details for any that you want to find out more about.

 
If you want to go ahead and make contact with the organisation click the ˜Express Interest" button at the bottom of the page. Simply fill in your details on the form, tick the authorisation box and then click ˜Send my data". An email will now automatically be sent to the organisation and they should contact you directly.



Volunteering Overseas 
Students Without Borders cannot arrange any overseas placements for you, nor can it vouch for any of the organisations listed below.  However, these groups organise volunteering opportunities for Australians who wish to work overseas. Please make sure that you look into each organisation fully before taking up a position with them.

Youth Challenge Australia
YCA is a non-government, non-profit organisation that engages Australian volunteers on community development projects.  Volunteers support local communities and organisations to assist in positive and sustainable development.

YCA volunteers can work with local and international volunteers on:
  • Health: HIV/AIDS prevention, water and sanitation, hygiene
  • Conservation: environmental education and protection, ecotourism
  • Education: numeracy and literacy, youth and adult education
  • Infrastructure: community halls, health posts, schools
YCA works with established local partner organisations in Vanuatu, Costa Rica, Guyana, Central Australia, and India.  Applicants must be 18 - 30.

Global Vision International (GVI)
GVI provides support and services to international charities, non-profits and governmental agencies, through volunteering opportunities and direct funding.
GVI is a non-political, non-religious organisation, which through its alliance with over 150 project partners in over 30 countries, provides opportunities to volunteers to fill a critical void in the fields of environmental research, conservation, education and community development. International partners include the South African National Parks Board, Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund, Jane Goodall Institute, Rainforest Concern and Kenyan Wildlife Service.

Projects Abroad
Projects Abroad is a voluntary organization that offers you the chance to gain new skills and experience on one of our many worthwhile projects. It is also an opportunity to experience and learn about a culture that is different from your own. This is a travel, voluntary and work experience opportunity.Projects Abroad offers a wide range of humanitarian projects such as teaching, community based programmes and care work across 24 third world and developing world countries. Also available are conservation programmes, journalism experience (print and radio), healthcare (medical, physio and nursing) and human rights law experience. Internships
Internships provide you with hands-on experience in a work environment.  They allow you to put the knowledge you are gaining at university into practice.  Internships are more structured than volunteering positions, although they are still unpaid.  When taking up an internship you are agreeing to provide a set number of hours, and will be given a job description.  Upon completion of an internship you will be eligible for your participation to be noted on your Developmental Transcript.  
One World Centre - Education students
The One World Centre is looking for interns to help update existing resources and to develop new resources.  The resources will be on global education topics (such as social justice or sustainability issues) and will be for use by teachers in their classrooms so will need to be linked to the WA curriculum framework.  Minimum 40 hours. Antipodeans Abroad - Unibreak Professional Internships

RSPCA - Marketing Work Experience
The RSPCA fundraising department are putting together a magazine which will go to print in late February.  It will be a glossy magazine with a print run of about 30,000.  
They need the help of a work experience student with a marketing background who would like to be involved with the editing of this magazine.  Your main role will be to edit information provided by other departments to maintain a high and consistent standard throughout the magazine.  You will be working closely with their fundraising manager so will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges a charitable organisation confronts in this financial climate.
